Basements, plant rooms, lift pits, stairwells and service shafts have one thing in common: you can’t get an excavator to them. Traditionally that meant a crew on jackhammers for weeks, rotating every half hour to manage vibration exposure, breathing dust in a space with no natural ventilation.

A demolition robot changes the maths. It’s electric, so there’s no exhaust in the enclosed space. It’s compact enough to travel through the building under its own power. And once it’s set up on its outriggers, it delivers the hitting power of a small excavator with the operator standing back at the door.

FAQ

Basement & confined space: common questions

How does the robot get into a basement?

Under its own power. Our machines track through a standard doorway, into a goods or passenger lift, and down stairs or ramps. If the building has no lift access we can crane the machine through an opening or walk it down a ramp; we check the route on the site walk.

What power does it need?

The robots run on three-phase electric power on site. If three-phase isn’t available we bring a generator and run the lead in, keeping the exhaust outside the building.

Can you work while the building is occupied?

Yes, and this is where robotic demolition earns its keep. No exhaust, dust captured at source, a crusher option for noise limits, and a machine that can be tracked out at knock-off so the space is clear for the next shift.

How much room do you need to set up?

Roughly a car park bay. The outriggers spread to give a stable base but the footprint is far smaller than any excavator, and the three-part arm reaches up, out and down from that one position.
